A little slice of heaven, Bracken is an utterly charming Shepherd’s Hut with beautiful views over the stunning Hesleyside Estate parkland. Handcrafted using reclaimed Oak from an old flour mill, the delightfully rustic exterior is complemented with a plush and fully equipped interior. A wood-burning stove & oven, en-suite shower room with fluffy towels and flushing loo, king-size bed – plus some magical little extras including a star-gazing kit and marshmallows just waiting to be toasted, means plans to travel far and wide may well be forgotten as you settle into this beautiful, accommodating space to enjoy a different kind of Shepherd Huts holiday. The covered veranda has rocking chairs and a huge wood-fired outdoor bath.

Bracken’s charm continues outside, with your own campfire the ideal spot to cosy up under blankets and enjoy tea alfresco with a glass of your favourite tipple. Your private tub for two offers the most romantic place to switch off, with uninterrupted views over vast, rolling countryside. As the embers from your fire grow low, delve into your hut to retrieve the stargazing equipment supplied. The entire Hesleyside Estate sits under Northumberland’s ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ and on clear evenings the vast, inky night is almost always alive with millions of stars.

If you’re in need of a break from your ‘always on’ life, Bracken is somewhere that is truly good for the soul. Leave feeling re-energised, in sync with nature and free from the busy thoughts of the everyday – three nights may not feel enough.

"Stayed at Heather and the experience was amazing, loved the wooden stove it warms up the hut really quick.

It’s very unique and you feel independent and out there in the wild. I wish the checkout wasn’t so early at 10am. 12pm would have been great so it doesn’t feel like rushed in the morning and you get to sleep with less stress. 2 x sacks of wood lasted us the two nights and even managed to do a lil bbq with it."

Just amazing. Nothing else needs to be said really, but I will anyway. We stayed in Rowan last weekend. The hut was immaculate and beautifully presented for our arrival. The hut itself is even better than it looks in the pictures online! It is clean and cosy, the windows allow plenty of light in during the day and are equipped with shutters which can be closed as necessary.

You have everything you need inside to survive. The bathroom has a modern feel without losing the charm of the hut. The bed was very comfortable. The view from the verandah is beautiful and the amount of wildlife around is amazing. It really feels you’re in the wild without sacrificing the comforts of home. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better base at which to spend our long weekend. Will be back!!!

Magical treehouse, private setting so not overlooked. Perfect for couples as romantic retreat but also fabulous with children as like a fairytale house.
